Interview today for Photobiz Xposed

April 28, 2015

amalfi coast sunsetI wanted to write a little personal blog post today, after doing what I thought was a pretty scary and honest interview with the super cool Andrew Hellmich from http://photobizx.com that you can listen to here:

Interview with Sandra Åberg

I realised something that I needed to write down in order for me to keep it in front of me and never forget it.

Since my dad died 2 years ago I have had some trouble really finding meaning in life and the point of all my hard work. You see ever since I was a little girl my goal was to create a successful business so I could buy my parents a house with a view of the ocean so they could grow old there and be happy. Not sure how a little girl gets that in her head.. but that was my dream. Since then I have grown up a little and things changed of course a little but I think the base of my hard work and striving for success was to make my parents proud.

Anyways, ever since he passed away from cancer at what I think is early (he was 63 years old) I have felt lost. You struggle – you work so hard and you die only to leave behind stuff that you worked so hard for. Not to make this too much of a sad song.. because it actually is not!

After talking to Andrew today i had this feeling of excitement again… This YES! this could be fun and I think I realised WHY after spending the afternoon thinking about it and it is just so simple – Sharing With People – One thing is achieving success, but another one is sharing it! I wanted to share it with my family and I still will, but sharing what you know with other people and being able to maybe help them grow really fills me up and gives me a sense of meaning again.

So after my interview today I decided that I will do more of that.. I will try to do it in the most honest way I can, just teaching what I know and maybe if I’m lucky this will help people and maybe I could leave something behind that means something to someone else. So I put together some new workshops options – even thinking about a few other options like a smaller Skype version etc. but if you’re a photographer looking to grow your business you can take a look at it my workshops here:

On another note we talked a bit in the interview about how us photographers tend to feel like we’re never good enough when we’re looking at other photographers’ work.. I wish we could all see our own beauty and the beauty in others without needing to compare it or own it. I wish we could be helping each other up instead of putting ourselves down. So we will have to start a little movement here to encourage each other – say nice things to each other and help each other love our work and not be scared of letting other photographers know when you love something they do.

So to encourage me and you to get better at this Andrew and a friend of his and I came up with the hashtag: #tog_ether and I think we should spread the love.  So if you’re a photographer, please use that hashtag the next time you make a nice comment about someone else’s work.

Thanks so much Sandra, I enjoyed listening to the interview, so thanks also to Andrew.

Your additional thoughts and reflections here immediately took my thoughts to wondering where my daughters thoughts are.
Thank you again for caring and sharing

Orlando

Thank you sooo much!!! 🙂

My pleasure Orlando – so good to hear you enjoyed the interview and thanks for rocking the new hashtag! #tog_ether 🙂

I had no idea about your father, that’s so sad Sandra, sorry for your loss.

Doing these interviews, I always have the listener in mind, asking questions to help him or her with their business and life in photography, I never would have guessed the interviews have an affect on the guest too.

I love your new found excitement and passion to help, share, give and to leave a legacy.

You do know you’re already doing exactly that with your beautiful work, your family, your workshops and your outlook. Keep doing what you’re doing. #tog_ether xx

You are the best @andrew – really.. Love your podcast and your excitement!! You rock and I’m so happy to know you.. See you live one day soon I hope! 🙂
