My Swedish Family Heritage in b/w pictures

December 9, 2020

In loving memory of my father Charles Åberg – my grandfather Oscar Åberg & my grandmother Anna-Lisa Åberg.

You made me who I am without me even knowing but now I see it all so clearly.

My grandfather was a poet, storyteller and photographer he was a opinionated person what I gather and wanted to uproar against Swedens then dance permit law from 1930’s. He had a rebel soul and I always did too – so did my grandmother – she would shoot and fly airplanes in the 40’s – quite unusual for a woman at the time.  This collection is photographed by Oscar Åberg and digitised and re-edited by me. The little boy in the images is my dad who passed away way too soon 7 years ago, left me humbled to living your best life while you are here & his kindness and independence is what has made me into the woman I am today. He taught me to never owe anyone anything – to treat everyone equal and to laugh at ourselves and not take this world too serious. He himself didn’t always follow his own advice and working hard was a virtue that he unfortunately didn’t get to reap the benefits of. So for me its a lesson to live now – rather do it that wait!

This is a small selection of some of my favourite images and I will add as I find time to go through the boxes and stacks of photographs. My dream is to photograph on film my own modern day interpretations of the same settings but for now – enjoy these soulful amazing memoirs from Sweden in 1950’s. it surly was a different time.
