SONY Camera Gear talk isn’t my most written about subject but I think its about time I disclosed a little more of the behind the scenes and gear I use and love.
2,5 year ago now I made a huge shift from Canon to SONY cameras. I never ever regret that choice for a second. I was terrified to switch to a new brand and too mirrorless. So many unknowns. At the time it felt like a big deal and I was scared I couldn’t recreate my work the same way with the new cameras.
I can now without a doubt saying upgrading to SONY is what made me a better photographer and I grew with the new gear in unexpected ways. I had been stuck for a long time. And being stuck fear is never a good way if you ask me. I would rather move forward somehow than being stuck in one place. I’m very happy I made this switch.
PROS & CONS OF SWITCHING TO SONY
What was the best things about switching to SONY?
- What you see is what you get! Being able to see what you get was a huge shift from DSLR, all of a sudden you can see on the screen and in the viewfinder how your image will look. I think this was probably the main highlight.
- Autofocus. Besides that having an autofocus that works like clockwork every time when shooting on F1,2 is a huge game changer for me. Way less blurry images. Sharp focus where I was it and fast.
- Being able to focus on being creative. And not spending my time worrying about if its in focus and if its sharp – if the settings are right. I was able to be more in tuned with my subject and focus on creating rather than camera settings. This was a huge change for me and it grew both my confidence but also my work.
What was less good about switching to SONY?
- Getting used tik a new menu took a little time but after a while you get it pretty easily and the awesome thing is you can make your own menus and know where all you need is. I honestly think this was the only thing I can think of that was a bit more to get used to. Your most important buttons though are right there at your finger tips.
I also wanted to go into the nitty gritty of the favourite lenses I use and why. As you may know I shoot a lot of portraits and love portrait photography but also nature and I shoot weddings so this is what my favourite lenses are also based on of course.
The SONY cameras I use:
SONY ALPHA A7R III-A CAMERA & my new baby SONY ALPHA A1 CAMERA both amazing cameras but hands down the A1 rocks! It’s like the dream camera and both for photography but also videography.
My favourite SONY Lenses:
SONY (E) FE 50MM F/1,2 GM
Oh where to start with this lens its my absolute favourite all my lenses and the one I use over 50% of the time. Its incredible.
SONY (E) FE 85MM F/1,4 GM
This is a close second place but also a great lens.
SONY (E) FE 35MM F/1,4 GM
this one is great for somemore nature in the scene and weddings.
SONY (E) FE 16-35MM F/2,8 GM
This one is perfect for landscapes and other scenery images even with people in it of course.
Those are my most used and favourite lenses but honestly I have yet to try one of their lenses I don’t love its just what I use the most. Besides that also 70-200 / 400 / 135 / 24-70 and the little amazing 50mm.
Oh and a must is of course the awesome memory cards from Sony: SONY 160 GB TOUGH In my camera bag you will also find my film camera Contax 645 but that is its own blogpost. 🙂 Profoto lights and of course my JAM DARLING STRAP.
